University of Louisiana at Lafayette faculty now have access to a new self-paced course, designed to help educators thoughtfully incorporate AI into their teaching, research, and administrative practices.
ODL 150: AI Essentials for Educators is available to any UL Lafayette faculty member through the Office of Distance Learning. The course is the result, in part, of one of the 2024-25 Faculty Learning Communities, co-facilitated by Dr. Latasha Holt and Dr. Laura Guichard Latiolais.
"I think it’s really important for faculty to take this course for their own growth and their own teaching and learning and pedagogy... but also to be really impactful to support their students so that they can be successful in their careers,” says Dr. Holt.
Faculty can request access to the course by email distancelearning@louisiana.edu. Once enrolled, faculty can complete course content and activities at their own pace.
Participants will explore key AI concepts, tools, and terminology while gaining hands-on experience with prompt creation and tool selection. The course also addresses ethical considerations and challenges associated with AI use in academic settings.
Faculty will learn how to integrate AI into teaching, research, and administrative tasks through interactive modules that enhance their productivity and innovation.
Participants receive a certificate of completion for this course once they have completed all course content and activities and passed all quizzes.
ODL 150 is among a full catalog of online self-paced and facilitated faculty development courses offered by the Office of Distance Learning. Faculty can enroll in courses by emailing the Instructional Support Team at distancelearning@louisiana.edu. Certain courses lead to ULearn Certification.
