Businesses and schools across Lafayette will be turning red and white on Oct. 21 and 23, as part of Homecoming Week festivities at UL Lafayette.

The annual Paint the Town Red business contest will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 21. This contest will determine which business displayed the best Ragin’ Cajuns interior and exterior decorations and the best skit. All participants are encouraged to “paint” their business red and white to show their support for the Ragin’ Cajuns.

Judging the contest will be local media personalities. Judging will begin at 10 a.m. and winners will be announced later that day and re-announced later at the Homecoming game. The UL Lafayette Alumni Association along with Thorton, Musso, Bellimin, Acadiana Trophies, and the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce will sponsor this event.

On Oct. 23, Lafayette schools will have their chance to get in on the Paint the Town Red action, by displaying their Ragin’ Cajuns sprit. Students, teachers, and faculty members are encouraged to show their Ragin’ Cajuns pride by decorating their school, wearing red and white, learning Ragin’ Cajuns cheers, and singing the fight song for the contest.

Preliminary judging will be from 8:15 a.m. – noon, by local media personalities. Prizes will be awarded at 1 p.m. Acadiana Trophies will sponsor the event.

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns will take on Florida Atlantic for Homecoming 2009. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Cajun Field on Oct. 24.
