Above & Below, Within & Without – an exhibition of new work by Steven Breaux and Kathy Reed will open during artwalk Saturday at the Acadiana Center for the Arts and will close September 30.

The exhibit involves the integration of South Louisiana plant forms from the artists' immediate environment with ritual burial, oilfield equipment, water towers, diesel engines, flight and a sense of community and internal relevance. The new work includes drawing and painting as well as a 56 day, 28 piece burial series entitled Earth Drawings.

Breaux is an Associate Professor of Visual Art at UL Lafayette. He has taught at the university since 1996 teaching Art and the Computer, Drawing, and Design. Currently, he teaches Advanced Drawing.

His work, ranging from painting, drawing and prints to video, has been accepted regionally, nationally and internationally for inclusion into galleries, catalogues and exhibitions. His work is in international, national and regional collections.

Reed has a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from the UL Lafayette. She is the Visual Art Instructor for the Lafayette Parish High School Arts Academy, a talent program for high school students.
