LA PTAC names D & A Associates its Small Business Contractor of Year

The president of a Mandeville, La., company that sells and installs spectator seating, playgrounds and recreation equipment has been named LA PTAC Small Business Contractor of the Year.

Charlotte Smith of D & A Associates, Inc., earned that designation from the Louisiana Procurement Technical Assistance Center. She was recently honored at a ceremony held at the Governor’s Mansion in Baton Rouge.

LA PTAC helps businesses in 54 parishes obtain and manage local, state and federal contracts. Its state administrative office is on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus.

D&A Associates has been a PTAC client since 2009. Its government customers include the Lafayette Parish School System, Delgado Community College, the Louisiana Department of Education, and the Louisiana Arts and Science Museum. The company has subcontracted with large LA PTAC prime clients, such as Gibbs Construction, Mapp Construction and W.G. Yates & Sons.

During 2014, D&A Associates reported 15 contracts totaling $508,479.

Assisted by LA PTAC counselor Cindy Carrier in Denham Springs, the company was able to receive minority business enterprise, disadvantaged business enterprise, and small business certifications. The company has also qualified for government assistance as a women-owned small business.

LA PTAC has helped Louisiana small businesses obtain $4.5 billion in government contracts, create 19,000 new direct jobs and generate more than $100 million in tax revenue within the state since its inception 26 years ago.
