The University of Louisiana at Lafayette has appointed a new vice president for University Advancement.

John Blohm (pronounced bloom) began working at the University on Jan. 5. His appointment is subject to approval by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.

He was previously interim vice president for Advancement at the University of New Haven.

“John is an accomplished advancement professional. He brings extensive knowledge of development and plans to improve operations to maximize fundraising and outreach across the University,” said Dr. Joseph Savoie, president of UL Lafayette, in a recent blog. “He is eager to advance the University’s growing national reputation and he has expressed interest in further developing a ‘culture of giving’ at UL Lafayette.”

Blohm’s career in institutional advancement spans universities across the South. Prior to his tenure at New Haven, he was vice president for Development and Alumni Relations at Virginia Commonwealth University. He has had advancement leadership roles at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Emory University, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and the University of Florida.

The University Advancement division supports UL Lafayette by enhancing its image; keeping alumni involved; maintaining accurate information about alumni, donors, and friends of the University; coordinating all fundraising activities on behalf of the University; and maintaining a close relationship between the University and the community.

It encompasses Alumni Affairs; the Office of Communications and Marketing; the Office of Development; Advancement Services; and the UL Lafayette Foundation.
