The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is the most affordable university in Louisiana, according to the recently released U.S. Department of Education’s College Affordability and Transparency List.
In addition to leading Louisiana as the university with the lowest average net price to attend, it is among the top 10 percent of most affordable four-year public universities in the United States.
This is the third consecutive year that the University has been cited for its affordability.
“We have maintained this distinction while raising the bar on quality in our academic programs. Our students and their parents should be most proud to know that they are receiving a very high quality education at a very nationally competitive price,” said Dr. DeWayne Bowie, vice president for Enrollment Management at UL Lafayette.
The 2011-2012 annual net price to attend UL Lafayette was $5,233, with 85 percent of the students receiving grants or scholarships. The national average for net price of attendance at public, four-year institutions was $10,863.
Data used by the U.S. Department of Education was reported by institutions for full-time, beginning undergraduate students. The average net price was generated by subtracting the average amount of federal, state or local government, or institutional grants or scholarships from the total cost of attendance.
This is the third year the Department of Education has published the College Affordability and Transparency List.
In a news release, Education Secretary Arne Duncan stated: “With so much information out there, it's important that students and their families are equipped with the tools they need to make informed decisions about where to go to college. Everyone has a role to play in keeping college affordable, and these lists help consumers compare the costs of higher education institutions."
