UL LAFAYETTE’S WEAR RED DAY IS SEPT. 4
Businesses and schools will compete for bragging rights

WEAR RED DAY SEPT. 4Get ready for Wear Red – 2009 style. On Sept. 4, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette will invite everyone to celebrate the positive impact the university has had on the Acadiana area by wearing Ragin’ Cajun red.

The day – designated as Wear Red Day – also involves competition.

“ Building on the success of last year’s Wear Red program, we are again inviting businesses to contend for bragging rights for the most employees wearing red on Sept. 4,” said Matt Tarver, UL Lafayette’s assistant director of trademark licensing. “Representatives from the winning companies will be invited to a home football game for an on-field presentation, where they will be named 2009 Wear Red Champions.”

The contest will be divided into categories based on a company’s overall size. To enter, companies need to submit a high-resolution, digital photograph of the entire group wearing red on Sept. 4 along with a note that gives the total number of people in the photo and number of employees at the business.

Photos can be sent via email to WearRed@louisiana.edu. Submissions can also be mailed to P.O. Box 41009, Lafayette, LA 70504. The deadline for photo entries is Friday, Sept. 18.

Tarver said photos of all participating businesses will be displayed on the jumbo video screen at home football games throughout this season.

In addition, businesses with the most creative Wear Red slogan or catch phrase that is displayed at their business will be recognized. To enter this competition, simply take a photo of the company sign with the slogan displayed and email it to WearRed@louisiana.edu. The deadline is also Sept. 18.

Schools also have a competition but it’s been extended this year.

“ Because Wear Red Day is Friday, Sept. 4, and many schools have their own spirit days on Fridays, the university is sponsoring a contest for the school that is the most creative in wearing red on any day during the week of Aug. 31 – Sept. 4,” he explained.

To enter the school competition, a high-resolution, digital photo of students and employees should be sent to WearRed@louisiana.edu along with a note detailing the number of people in the picture and the number of students and employees at the school.

One school will be designated the 2009 Wear Red Champion and will be recognized during an on-field presentation at an upcoming home football game. Photos of all participants will be displayed throughout the home football season on the jumbo video screen at Cajun Field.
